The main five villages of the Shinobi World lived in peaceful harmony - well somewhat peaceful. They were shinobi, not dainty flowers. The average occurrences of death and blood were gruesome, but accepted. But the Kages of these Villages were all peaceful and calm to one another, despite the fact that they were shinobi. Their job was to kill and do what they were supposed to. The five main villages - Konohagakure no Sato, Sunagakure no Sato, Kirigakure no Sato, Iwagakure no Sato, and Kumogakure no Sato - all were recognized the most to the outsiders of the Shinobi World. They often forgot about the other lands and their struggling economy. Not considered apart of the main villages, no other land was allowed to cling to the title of "Kage". Thus, making them invisible to others. While many people didn't see the problem with this, a small group of people - the minority in this situation - felt otherwise. They were shinobi too; just because they didn't have the whimsy title of "Kage" did not mean they shouldn't be recognized. And as such, the brewing of the new villages began.
It all started with a small island, near Kirigakure. They still resided within the Land of the Mist, but they were susceptible to much colder climates. Their village was constantly down poured by snow and hail - an occurrence everyday. As cold as their village's name, these shinobi were brutal. While they weren't even considered a measly village - they were a group of rebels. They yearned changed within the old system of ways - they wanted their respect from the other nations. The group of rebels named themselves Aisugakure - after the cold climate of the land they lived upon.
The village may have been small, but the land itself was large. It seemed to be endless and completely vast, covered in only pure white snow. Foreigners to the land would have no idea how to maneuver themselves, unknown to the territory, they would fall into the clutches of the brewing rebellion of Aisugakure. The leader of Aisugakure was named Takashi Fujiko. His leaders called him "Aisu-ou" meaning "King of the Ice". The man, wanting to strength his land and army before he continued his plans, married a young woman. They in turn had a daughter, named Tsukiko. Tsukiko was referred to as "Tsu-Hime", for she was the Princess of this Ice Kingdom.
Tsukiko was a young and naive girl, confused by her father's ways. Her father sensed her oblivious nature and had her constantly hidden away in their Kingdom. She was not to be spoken of - he feared that she would grow up not understanding his ways. Wanting to have another child to make sure their kingdom did not fall, he attempted to. To no avail, as his wife seemed to be unable to have another child - no matter how many attempts. No longer pleased with her, he had her executed.
This was the first "strike". Tsukiko couldn't believe her father would kill his own wife. She grew up to be a resentful princess. At the age of sixteen, she left her country and traveled to the other shinobi villages. Now much older, she knew of her father's revolutionary plans. Convincing him that she had left to explore foreign territory, she was able to leave. She took this as her chance to warn the other nations of the impending battle.
The young girl spoke to the Kages, wanting them to listen to her. She pleaded with them to be prepared. The Kages, somewhat skeptical, did as she said. Little did Tsukiko know however, that her father had not let her venture on without a guard. His personal army, consisting of the most loyal shinobi of his village, were watching her. Using the butterfly tattoo on their back, they flared the large mark into the sky. The Aisu-ou was aware that Tsukiko had let off secrets. This started the Grand Shinobi War.
Almost immediately, Aisugakure invaded Kirigakure. They thwarted the Mist off easily - if they could fight in snow, they could fight in mist. Tsukiko was distraught at what she had caused. She fled to Konohagakure, where she and the Hokage brewed an interesting relationship despite being midst within the war. The Hokage himself was a strong man - he didn't fear her father. "Let me take you to a nice place.." said the Hokage.
The couple glanced up at what was called the "Grand Old Tree". It was supposed to be a wise tree. When you needed true help, he would speak to you and give you your answer. The Hokage spoke to the tree - how could they stop the Rebellion? Given a definite a response, he knew what he had to do. He had to use that jutsu. Saisyuu Hakai was the name of the jutsu - literally "Final Destruction". It was a suicidal, but a extremely deadly jutsu created by the Hokage.
Leaving Tsukiko to flee the village, he waited for the Aisu-ou to come. And that he did. It was marked "The Grand Tree Battle", because the battle took place within the sanctuary that the Grand Tree was located. Unprepared for his demise, the Aisu-ou battled hard, but the Hokage did not die. With the last bit of his chakra and strength, he performed the jutsu. Their souls were bound by a chain that connected them both, as they both deceased in the suicidal move.
The Shinobi World had deceased. With Aisugakure literally becoming destroyed due to the power of the combined forces of the other villages, the ones who were lucky enough to survive fled into hiding. The five main villages had lost 85% of their citizens - shinobi or not, in the battle. Most of all, they lost a Hokage. The world was silent for one minute. There was nothing. The wind was silent, the animals were silent, everyone was silent. They knew that they had just lost a strong legend.
The Reconstruction Era of the Shinobi Villages began. Still upholding their rules, they re-built themselves to which they stand of that today. The villages, after hundreds of years, were able to reconstruct themselves. Families were flourishing, poverty was diminishing. New Kages were implanted as well as new tactics and better protection of these villages.
However, the descendants of followers who followed the Ice Lord still brew in their ice dungeons. Will a new rebellion spur up within the new years? Let us pray that we are prepared for the next fight.
