stature;
Rena stands at 5'3 and weighs about 113 pounds. She's a bit small for her age but is strong nonetheless. Her body is conditioned and curved and is very pleasing to the eyes.
eyes;
A deep shade of crimson. Rena's eyes are a smooth red that often say what her mouth won't. Most of the time they are filled with a shining peace, her gaze displaying her truly calm and orderly personality.
hair;
White, like snow. Rena's hair is bright and very beautiful. Its long, shining strands convey a subtle level of high-maintenance, as Rena takes especially good care of her appearance.
→ proper equipment | Rena wears a white dress with a split up the side, typically with a longer skirt for modesty. Over this dress she wears a red cloak. Her shoes are knee-high white lace-up boots. When in combat she always has two black pouches--one on each hip beneath the cloak--with her inventory, and her tanto strapped to her hips, positioned on her lower back for easy access. The tanto is hidden beneath the cloak.
→ identifiers | Her Akatsuki ring, Jewel, worn on her left thumb.

sound release;
Rena has been a practitioner of sound techniques for most of her life. She studied the art for 14 years and continues training in her spare time, always finding new ways to manipulate sound. She was trained by a master of the release named Takano Ohba. Ohba taught her everything he knew and the result was a very powerful student. Rena's skill in this art is such that it would be extremely difficult to match.
wind release;
Rena's second specialty in combat is her wind release. Before Ohba would agree to teach her any actual techniques, he demanded that the girl first learn and become proficient with wind release, as this was an essential part of using sound. Rena honed her wind nature for many years in her early teen life, including the four she spent with her squad prior to the Chunin Exams. She often practices her wind release in her spare time when she's feeling up to it, finding new ways to help augment her sound control. She became so adept with wind that she solely used it to pass the Chunin Exams with her squad. This success is what made the stubborn Ohba agree to teach her what he knew about sound.
chakra efficiency;
Rena has always been good with controlling her chakra. This allowed her to learn wind release much faster than she ordinarily would have. She was adept at putting text lessons into practice--always soaking in the information from her classes and then bringing it to the field. She knows how much chakra each technique should require and rations it appropriately. It is, therefore, very difficult to wear her down during a battle that relies heavily on ninjutsu.
→ weaknesses |
communication;
Rena has never been much of a talker. She doesn't speak often, and when she does she rarely has a lot to say. She is more of an observer, remaining quiet and doing as she's asked when needed. This makes it difficult for her to relay her thoughts and feelings to others, and it had actually been a bother to her teammates in her younger years during missions.
relationships;
Rena was a very solitary person and still is to some degree. She never got involved with anyone and hadn't really made any efforts to make friends. Her high intelligence kept those jealous of her at bay, and those that wanted to approach her couldn't because she preferred to keep to herself. This has made her somewhat naive with relationships, whether they be simple friendship-based or romantic.
improvising;
Rena believes in forming a plan or strategy before charging in to fight. She dislikes interruptions and when things don't go according to a set agenda. This makes her least adept at thinking on the spot. If a situation is altered last minute or things go awry and she's left to improvise and come up with a solution, she finds herself wracking her brain for ideas.
→ personality | Rena is very even-tempered. She is most often very calm and collected. She doesn't say much very often unless she's provoked in some way. Silence is a comfort for her, so it's natural for her to remain quiet even if those around her are not.
Rena is naturally a logical and analytical person. She is very good at taking in information and remembering it, storing it for later use. She's confident in her abilities due to all of her time spent training, though she isn't arrogant. She likes to plan things out before acting and hates sudden changes in such plans. She will usually get noticeably flustered if things go awry, especially in social assignments.
Around her peers she may be defensive about her abilities, though around superiors she is less apt to imply that others see her as an equal. Rena respects other people for their abilities and has no real issues taking orders and following instructions, even if she disagrees with the actual mission or task. Her main goal is to gain power, so if another can help her achieve that, she will do what she can to earn their favor.
Though who hang around her long enough will find Rena to be a very tranquil person. That's not to say she'd weak-hearted, however. She has no issue with death and will not shy away from combat. Her only real issues are dealing with people on any intimate basis--as in, anything beyond acquaintances. Besides her parents and Ohba, Rena never got close to anyone--she keeps to herself and will only step out of her shell if it's absolutely necessary. And even then she'll hate the fact she's doing it.
Most would be tempted to call her an introvert, though she is, in reality, selectively mute. Rena will voice her thoughts if she deems it appropriate or necessary, but otherwise she will not speak. She will talk to others if provoked, as well. Ordinarily, though, Rena is quiet and is very content in that silence. She plays her flute and often does not appear to need or want the company of other people.
The exception to this is Satoshi Akunuma, Akatsuki's leader. He is Rena's partner in the organization and her lover, so naturally Rena feels more at ease and social around him. Rena shows a great level of respect and love for the man, dedicating her time and talents to serve his personal needs and the goals he has for the group.

→ history |
Rena was born to Reija and Hakori Tsukiyami. The Tsukiyami family was that of the civilian class in Ame and therefore wasn't well known. Reija raised her daughter as an ordinary girl for about 6 years. Rena wasn't an overly social girl--she usually kept to herself and didn't go outside to play much. When she did, it was with one or two other children and she often wasn't out long. Being outgoing and sociable just wasn't in her nature.
Rena spent very little time with her own family. She would eat dinner in the evenings with them and then head immediately to her room. It's not that she didn't care for them, she just found it difficult to express her love. She usually just left little notes around the house for her parents to read. They knew their daughter was on the silent side, but by her notes she was very sweet and genuinely did care for others--she just had her own ways of showing it.
Rena would often do little things to express gratitude--doing dishes after a meal now and then without a word, running errands for villagers who had smiled at her and wished her a good day, and feeding the animals in the forest who bothered to give her company. She never said much, but she didn't really have to.
At the age of seven Rena enrolled in the academy in Ame. She did well with her tests and studying, often spending several hours in her room each day looking over scrolls and notes she had taken in class. She was very smart for her age, and over the course of 3 years she only became more intelligent. When the basics were learned, Rena was quick to move on to other things.
At the age of ten she graduated. This was a happy occasion but Rena celebrated in solitude. She hadn't made any real friends due to her shyness, and it didn't help that she was so intelligent--others thought her stuck-up, snooty. Rena wasn't like this at all--she merely tried her best to do well and was, in turn, quite the overachiever. Still, she was relatively content, and she even felt a bit of excitement when she was assigned to her genin team. It was at this point that she was told to pick a specialty--something she'd be focusing on in her training.
Rena received a gift from her mother soon after, for her 10th birthday. This gift was a black, metal flute. Reija had paid a hefty price for it, but she wanted her daughter to have something genuinely nice and beautiful. Rena took to the instrument right away. Instead of simply using it for fun, though, she sought to also use it for her training.
She proposed this idea to her new jonin teacher. The man referred her to a scroll on wind release and then informed her there was a very old sound user living in the village. It was an uncommon art in Ame, but the man--Ohba Takano--was the best in his skill for many miles. Rena sought him out and asked to be his student. Ohba declined stubbornly, saying that she first needed to learn wind release to the best she could before he began teaching her about sound techniques. He did, however, agree to teach her the basics of the physics of sound waves--all the textbook information that her missions wouldn't be teaching her. Rena was eager to learn and agreed.
For four years (until she was 14) Rena went on missions with her genin squad. She learned much and was, after much training with her wind nature, able to be a very good asset to the team. She learned wind quickly, so quickly that it was actually a bit surprising to her sensei. The man praised her success but secretly hoped that the power wouldn't go to her head, especially since she was still somewhat young.
During these years she soaked up all the information she could on sound--it was a lovely weapon that could create calm or destroy it. The possibility of using sound as her primary specialty was exciting, and Rena never missed a day of study with Ohba. She learned how sound waves traveled, the substances they affected, frequencies, intensity, the importance of duration and the details of techniques that depended on range and proximity. Rena took in everything, studying hard each day and then spending more time doing so when she returned home. This routine turned her into a bit of a recluse--she was never really seen around the village unless she was on an assignment or mission with her squad. Even then she didn't really make any effort to reach out to people. She was highly intelligent, skilled, yet very quiet.
At the end of these four years, Rena took the Chunin Exams. She passed with her squad relying solely on her skill with wind release. It was very advanced and she continued to hone it in her spare time. Her prowess with wind release earned her a nickname among her team and peers--the white sparrow. She was small, quiet, and could play the prettiest songs."White sparrow certainly doesn't sound very threatening."
Ohba had told her this during his congratulations on her having passed the exam. Seeing how much she'd progressed in her wind release, told her that the next step in her training was to commence.
It was at this time that Ohba began seriously teaching Rena how to use sound. She made use of her flute and started training with great passion. She studied for seven years, learning to manipulate sound and use it as a weapon. Ohba, though elderly and not as strong as he once was, was a great and very wise teacher. He was patient in teaching the young woman new techniques, and though he never admitted it, her ability to pick things up quickly and take in information had impressed him. She became a highly skilled kunoichi and at the age of 21 (approx. 5 A.C.) she celebrated her birthday with Ohba. He gave her three scrolls with information on sound techniques that he had not yet taught her. Rena received this gift with a sad smile. She knew what he was implying, but she accepted it in honor of his teachings. The man died a week later at the age of 80, finally at the end of his very long life.
Rena continued her training vehemently, learning from the scrolls she'd been given. This wasn't hard, given her high intelligence and knack for taking in information. Soon after she took the jonin exam and passed. It wasn't really an eventful thing, as she didn't actively seek anyone out to celebrate. She only continued her missions as normal, completing assignments to add to her experience.
It came to her attention that a gang called Kurai had been taking over and oppressing several of the smaller nations. Though this was to be only the start of the group's eventual control over Konoha, Kusa, and Iwa, Rena took the threat seriously. She then learned a rebel group by the name of Hozuki was fighting against the Kurai, and this gave her hope for brighter future for all of the villages.
Rena found herself not wanting to sit in one place doing nothing. She hadn't had goal outside of mastering the sound release, and though she'd spent most of her life doing so, she found herself feeling unfulfilled. On a Friday evening in Ame she left her parents a note at their residence saying goodbye, as this was her way. She didn't have any real friends to speak of, so aside from leaving Reija and Hakori behind, officially taking her leave of Ame was easy.
She traveled for two years, staying out of sight of potential enemies. She witnessed the destruction left in the wake of the Kurai and the pain felt by those powerless to stop them. Hozuki was still fighting, but Rena had no desire to join their side of the fray. It was during her travels that she learned of a third group by the name of Akatsuki. There was some business prior to this group that was affiliated with another band called the Fumetsuhi. It was understood that it had since been taken down, but Rena was intrigued by this cloaked group of people.
She had trained during her travels and was, to her knowledge, the top sound manipulator in Ame. This art in combination with her wind made her a very deadly opponent. She was approached by a man from the organization during her walk across a large expanse of grassland one morning. After he informed her that he had sought her out and deemed her worthy of being in the organization, he gave her the Jewel ring. Rena wore the ring with pride and kept her cloak with her in one of her scrolls at all times. She was proud to be a part of the group on the basis of power, not so much what their goals were.
She was also rather drawn to the man who had first approached her. This man was the leader, who she came to know as Satoshi. This man was powerful and intelligent, and Rena found herself instantly attracted to him. Given that she didn't have a romantic history, it was, at first, awkward for her to express her feelings. Satoshi told her, or rather showed her, that he felt the same way. The two began an intense romance that is still going strong. They're partners in crime just the same as they are partners in love.
Though she had initially been intrigued to join Akatsuki out of a desire for power, she decided to stay in the group because of her desire for the leader. She became very devoted to him, and despite her usually quiet demeanor she now follows the man with the utmost loyalty and dedication.
On a related note, Rena remains hopeful that the conflict between the Kurai and Hozuki is settled one way or another. Death and pain are to be expected as collateral damage, though these things don't really bother her. Rena's outlook is fairly simple: do as you're told in best judgment as is for the betterment of the land. Whose land, of course, is always up for debate and subject to the individual."Even a seemingly innocent sparrow can tear your heart out."

It never really stopped raining in Ame. This particular Friday morning Rena found herself waking up to the soft sound of raindrops outside. It was a gentle sprinkle now, but it would undoubtedly start pouring at some point.
The woman took in a deep breath and sat up in bed. She looked around the dim room, which was void of any early light due to there being no windows. She was in a underground floor of one of the organization's headquarters. It was dark but it was comforting.
On mornings like this she sometimes thought about her younger years--her time in school, her time with her sensei, her squad, and most memorable of all--Ohba. Being back in Ame brought back subtle wisps of nostalgia in her mind. But nostalgia was not the reason she was here.
Rena stretched her arms out high above her before letting them lay in her lap. She turned her body to look at the man beside her, her white chemise gliding over her curves as she did so. She smiled at him, the man with beautiful white hair--a shade that nearly matched hers. And his eyes--they were a gorgeous shade of red, just like her own, albeit a tad brighter and much more menacing.
Those red eyes met hers and the woman offered a sad smile. "Couldn't sleep again?"
Satoshi sighed in a mixture of fatigue and annoyance, then mumbled what sounded like a general "yes" or "yeah." It was evident he was sleepy--he was rarely able to drift off into any deep slumber. Insomnia tended to leave him feeling exhausted and annoyed many mornings, but he always found the will to rise and enjoy her company.
Rena nodded and watched him sit up. She couldn't help but smile as the covers pulled away to reveal the toned torso of her lover. There was something about the man that was just so undeniably alluring. There were times when she wasn't sure what was going through his mind--though occasionally he himself had the same issue. He often didn't sleep much, and in reality he was a rather cruel person. But Rena adored him nonetheless.
It was almost strange to think about sometimes, how the two of them had gotten together. Prior to joining the organization Rena had not had much romantic experience. In fact, she had no romantic history to speak of. At all. Yet, when this man had approached her in the grasslands that morning, when he had told her that she was worthy of being a member of his group and that he wished her to join him, that had been the start of it. She remembered feeling instantly attracted to him. Perhaps it was his looks, maybe the powerful aura he gave off, the way he spoke...there were most likely multiple reasons. But she had not met anyone of his caliber in the past, and her prolonged hesitance with him definitely had expressed this.
Despite her slow start into anything relationship-related, Rena and Satoshi did end up together after her little confession. Satoshi had since taught Rena several things he didn't even know he had--one of the primary being how to best serve one's leader and lover. This could be a tricky combination for some, but due to the intense nature of the two's relationship, Rena was fairly adept in it.
Mornings like these she appreciated the nature of their love for what it was, and she admired the man beside her for who he was. Rena was loyal, dedicated, and strong. And whenever the two entered into any endeavor together, it was apparent to the man through that light in her eyes that she truly held the utmost respect and love for him.
"I'm going to go check on things outside. I'll be back soon to really wake you up." Rena smiled and winked at the man before easing off the bed to make her way upstairs. Like most days she spent in the Ame headquarters, Rena looked forward to starting the day with the calming scent of rain.
