The gods have not been merciful to us, the ninja that inhabit this world. They brought famine and drought upon our world, leaving it weaker and more susceptible to what could be called illness. This is our story.
When the head gang, the Kurai, invaded the shinobi world, it would change everything from our way of life to how the currency flowed, to the structure of power and the weapons we use. Family homes were destroyed, possessions stolen, burnt or sold… People held captive or forced to do things, as if some type of god was forcing their hand. At first people didn’t know what was going on when drugs began to show up, and weapons the used projectiles that we had never seen before. It could be said that the shinobi blamed all this on Akatsuki, their one major enemy in times past, but they had vanished when their statue was destroyed. Since it was not them, it was only too easy for this gang to begin to sell their goods, taking jobs that would normally go to hidden villages. The villages began to lose money, and they eventually grew weaker…
Then these people began to appear in the dark underground of the ninja world. People wanted to forget what was happening, or find an outlet for their anger, and Kurai offered sprites and opiates to help them forget, but also jobs that would require a large amount of anger and desire to hurt someone. It got to the point where they were recruiting members like no before, but this all went unknown by the villages. They believed that everything was fine so long as they stayed within their walls, but it did not take long for the Kurai to begin sending in spies to the shinobi corps belonging to each village.
This made it possible for them to take over the smallest villages first, and slowly trickling their troops into the larger ones—Konoha, Suna, Kiri, the list goes on. When the undercover shinobi were either recruited by Kurai or merely sent through the system, they would spend time with the higher-ups and ‘persuade’ them to offer them up for higher positions. As the Kurai virus seeped deeper into the power structures, things took a turn for the worse. Villages crumbled one by one, and finally one day the strongest of them all, Konohagakure no Sato, was hit. The Godaime Hokage, Tsunade, was forcefully dragged from her seat at the top and sent to one of the prisons the Kurai had set up. People panicked, and Kurai took advantage of it… They harnessed their fear and directed it at the ninja that were supposed to be protecting them.
Shinobi were eventually driven out of their villages by the people they were meant to care for. Once they were gone the civilians were sent to work, harnessing what was left of the dilapidated resources to bring in more money to their new leaders. It did not take long for these people to rebel, but this time there was no one there to help them. The ninja had seemingly vanished, but every now and then one would resurface, taking commissions or going back to their villages to live in secret. Most did nothing against this new reign, but that was only because no one was brave enough or had the ideas and what was needed to form a group to oppose their oppressors. It was easier to join them, after all.
One day a rebel group appeared, causing tremendous grief for the Kurai. They burnt down the gang’s buildings, freed prisoners, infiltrated and gained intelligence just to that they could stop the Kurai’s plans at the source. This group called themselves the Hozuki, and was run by none other than the young Haruno Sakura. This group was literally invisible when Kurai went on their raids, and was not once found. It gave hope to those who dreamed of a brighter future, and it seemed that these two gangs were the only ones fighting for a new future. Both Hozuki and Kurai grew in numbers, plotting in clandestine to overthrow the other.
But trouble was brewing in the shadows. The one and only Uchiha Madara was still intent on destroying Konoha with the Bijuu to exact his revenge against the ancient stronghold. Though the Akatsuki had dispersed, he formed a new group—the Fumetsuhi: the eternal flame. It consisted of only three members when it was formed, and though they are always on the lookout for new shinobi to join, they secretly hunted Bijuu. It took nearly a year before Fumetsuhi had captured enough bijuu – seven of the nine. In a well-coordinated and silent attack, they took over Kumogakure no Sato and stormed Sunagakure, taking that as well.
Kyoshoku Kemuri, a Fumetsuhi member, had different plans, however – she was a double agent for Kurai, feeding the young leader, Seishou Miyoko, priceless information about the group and its movements. As a combined force they tore down Uchiha Madara and destroyed the organization, flattening it’s base in Kumogakure before going their separate ways.
It didn’t take long for someone to seize the opening and re-form the organization under its original name, Akatsuki, and take hold of Kumo once again to build it from the ground up. Kumogakure thinks the faceless leader a hero, and currently serves under them with no issue – the shinobi there owe this god their lives, their village, their everything. Kurai has been shown to be a threat, but it is of the barest amount of concern to them – their only objective as of now is a secret, but it bodes ill for the shinobi world, no matter what it is.
Kurai is working hard to bring down the force of Akatsuki as well as the rebel group, Hozuki, that is now headed by Uzumaki Naruto – Haruno Sakura was captured when Miyoko flattened their camp just over a year ago. Hozuki is hardly considered a threat by either group, leaving the door wide open for them to infiltrate either side of the dark coin.
One thing is clear, though: whoever comes out on top will own the shinobi world, and you can only hope that it’s the side you’ve chosen.
Will you accept darkness and rise with Akatsuki? Choose power over your identity and align yourself with Kurai? Fight to bring light back to the nations alongside Hozuki? Or will you carve your own path, either alone or with others?
Your destiny awaits here at COMMOVEO: REQUIEM.
